He was going back and forth between football and basketball and has decided to put his energy into football.

Kelley said he will be out four weeks.

Saints with a lot of talent

The biggest question for Santa Fe South will be how strong the offensive and defensive line will be, but it won't be about its skilled kids.

With quarterback Jameson Ballinger and wide receiver Abraham Luna, the Saints are able to compete with the best in Class 4A.

"I think this is going to be the best team we've put on the field," coach Jerry Braziel said. "We've got kids with a lot of experience, and we're excited."

Braziel is taking over for Mike Cartmill, who died in April. Braziel said it was tough at first, but the players and the school are trying their best to move on.

Chappell receiving interest

Guthrie's Kentrell Brothers is clearly the top recruit for the Bluejays, but he's not the only one getting looks.

Junior linebacker Landry Chappell is receiving a lot of interest from Ivy League schools, he said.

Chappell was among the state's leaders with 170 tackles and seven sacks last year.

"I'm a lot stronger than last year, and I'd love to have that opportunity," Chappell said.
