Hectic summer ending for Mustang's Taylor

Brandon Taylor's summer had a little bit of everything — some baseball, a little football, a taste of big-time recruiting and some minor surgery.

The Mustang junior quarterback had some cartilage cleaned out of his right knee after injuring it in baseball, but the 6-foot-2, 205-pound left-hander is back to full health for fall camp.

"I got my knee all fixed up and I'm ready to go now," said Taylor, who has received recruiting interest from Missouri, Tulsa and Oklahoma State. "The recruiting wasn't anything real big, but anything like that, with (NCAA Division I teams) talking to me — I was just happy to get that. That was such a big shock to me.

"Hopefully this year I can go out and do what I've got to do, and hopefully they'll come after me."

Tkach coming on strong for Heritage

The passing game won't be the No. 1 option for Heritage Hall as long as junior running back Barry Sanders is around.

However, when the Chargers do elect to pass, they're going to have some very good options.

Senior Cooper Cloud and junior Sterling Shepard will alternate at quarterback and wide receiver, but the Chargers also have junior Cale Courtney and now Shaun Tkach.

"He's (Tkach) someone who really started to step up last year," coach Andy Bogert said. "I can't remember in all of our 7-on-7 competitions seeing Shaun drop a pass."
