Western Heights' Clark working back from injury

This football season came with a little extra excitement for Western Heights offensive lineman Tristan Clark. The junior sat out all of last season after tearing up his knee during wrestling season as a freshman.

Now, he's finally back on the football field ready to help the Jets improve on last year's 2-8 season.

"I'm real excited to be back," Clark said. "I think if everything goes right, we can be 8-2 this year."

Clark's high expectations include a good season from Jets running back Darius Young, a 5-foot-7, 205-pound junior with a good combination of power and quickness.

"He can do it all," Clark said. "He might be one of the best in the state."

Clark isn't afraid to be loud in practice, but he considers himself more of a leader by example than by voice.

"I like to show how things are done," he said. "I like to be the guy who gets out there and does the job right."

Benway healthy for Huskies

It was a frustrating spring and summer for Edmond North running back Jared Benway. Expected to lead the Huskies' rushing attack, he was sidelined for most of the summer with an ankle injury.

He missed the three-day camp in June and tried to play in the 7-on-7 Oklahoma Showdown event in July but wasn't effective.

But as he prepares for his junior season, things are back on track.

"It was frustrating, but that's over now," Benway said. "I'm feeling good and ready to go out there and show what I can do."

PC North's Burton anchors line with move to left side

As a sophomore last season, Daniel Burton was one of the most reliable players on a senior-laden offensive line at Putnam City North.

Now a junior and one of two returning starters on the line, the 6-foot-4, 285-pound Burton has shifted to left tackle where he will block for returning quarterback Jace James, as well as the dangerous running back combo of Sam Wolfe and Dre Holman in the Panthers' no-huddle offense.
