High school pranks gone bad, Kate Upton, and This American Life

Lots of things happen on the Internet every week — but you already know that. Here’s some of the stuff that captured my attention (or just made me laugh) last week.

Missouri high school basketball players are intense.

A Missouri high school issued a letter on March 20 to the parents of the girls’ basketball team informing them that the drinking water at a Feb. 4 game had been intentionally contaminated with urine by players on the opposing team.

“Um, what?” is exactly what I said when I read that story.

I’m not sure I understood the brains of teenagers when I was one. I’m positive that I don’t understand them now.

This California kid really wants to go to prom with Kate Upton.

Ok, I guess we all understand what’s going through this teenager’s head.

Things that I would suggest you spend $2.99 on.

If you 1.) have a smartphone, and 2.) love good stories, you need to hand over three big ones and download the This American Life app.

As explained by This American Life: This American Life is a weekly public radio show broadcast on more than 500 stations to about 1.8 million listeners. There’s a theme to each episode, and a variety of stories on that theme. It’s mostly true stories of everyday people, though not always. There’s lots more to the show, but it’s sort of hard to describe.

Listen, you should just, well, listen.

The iPhone and Android apps give you on-demand access to their entire radio archive of more than 400 episodes, and the ability to download one episode at a time for offline listening. When I commuted from Texas (OK, southeast Norman) to The Oklahoman, I’d listen to an episode a day.

Try it on your next road trip. Or if you’re like me and are enjoying a cable-free life, fill up an evening at home with it.
