McGuinness wins through the air

Bishop McGuinness' new faster-paced offense worked about as well against a varsity opponent as it had in Week 1 against a JV team.

The Class 4A No. 5 Fighting Irish, who beat Shawnee's JV 42-0 a week ago, scored four times through the air Friday in defeating Tulsa Bishop Kelley 35-17.

Camden Tharp threw touchdown passes of 33 yards to Tyler Konarik and 25 yards to Danny Krenger in a 21-point first quarter. The other TD came on a 10-yard run by Jacob Lewis.

Kelley scored the next 17 points, 10 in the second quarter and a touchdown in the third, before Tharp and Konarik connected on a 19-yard TD later in the third. The same two teamed up again on the final Irish touchdown, a 54-yarder in the fourth quarter.

A ball-control team in recent years, McGuinness throws frequently under new coach Justin Jones. Tharp finished 11-of-23 for 246 yards. The Irish defense, meanwhile, had two interceptions as Kelley completed only 4-of-17 passes.

Anadarko cruises

Sheldon Wilson and Tyler Melton had big nights in leading Class 3A No. 2 Anadarko to a 53-14 victory over Centennial.

Wilson gained 105 yards and scored twice on just four carries; one of his TDs came on a 59-yard run. He also had two catches for 90 yards and two touchdowns.

Melton was 6-of-7 for 187 yards and four TDs without an interception.

Centennial got a 63-yard touchdown run from Tre'von Threat and a 5-yard TD run by Terry Davis Jr.

Putnam City beats PC West

Casey Curtis had a big night at tailback, scoring three touchdowns in leading Putnam City to a 49-14 victory over Putnam City West.

Curtis scored on a 1-yard run to tie the score at 7 in the second quarter. He added TD runs of 68 and 23 yards in the third quarter, when the Pirates scored 28 points. He finished with 162 yards on 14 carries.

Jacky Smith had a 37-yard touchdown catch and returned an interception 45 yards for a score.
