Defending state champion Norman North finally won a shootout, but it took 12 tries.
Before an estimated crowd of 1,200 at Norman North, the Timberwolves defeated Norman, 2-1, Friday night in the Class 6A quarterfinals, avenging a 1-0 shootout loss to the Tigers earlier in the season.
The regular season loss was the Timberwolves first to Norman since 2007. Norman North, 12-3, lost all three of its game this season in shootouts.
But the Timberwolves outscored scored Norman 10-9 in the shootout on Friday night.
The Timberwolves finished the shootout with seven straight goals, while Norman made nine in a row before goal keeper Daniel Taylor finally stopped a shot attempt by the Tigers' Theo Ostas.
Mauro Cichero and Ashton Bray each made two goals for Norman North in the shootout, while Norman's Matt Tidwell also scored twice.
Cichero scored with 14 seconds left in the first half on a penalty kick. Matt Hockett of Norman tied the game 1-1 with 3:13 left to force overtime. Neither team scored in two overtimes.
Norman, 12-2, also had a goal nullified in regulation on an offsides penalty.
The Timberwolves advance to meet Owasso in the semifinals.

The top-ranked Huskies improved to 13-2 on the season with a victory in the 6A boys soccer quarterfinals over their crosstown rivals.
Avery Sanderson, Trevor Moore and Zack Medawaetage each scored goals for Edmond North, while Ross Stewart and Alex Mullet had assists.
