Heritage Hall's boys will playing for the state soccer title for the first time in six years.
The Chargers defeated Tulsa East Central 3-2 at home Tuesday night in the Class 5A semifinals. Connor McGinnis had two goals for Heritage Hall while Austin Gordon scored the game-winner in overtime.
The Chargers are now 16-0 on the season and will meet Tulsa Washington on Friday night at the University of Tulsa for the Class 5A state title. Tulsa Washington defeated Northwest Classen 4-1 in the other semifinal.
“We got one more game to go,” Heritage Hall coach Tommy Riley said. “Hopefully, we can cap off a perfect season.”
Heritage Hall played in the state championship soccer game twice before, in 2005 and 2007, losing both times.
A REMATCH IN 5A GIRLS TITLE GAME
The Class 5A girls state championship game will be the same as last season.
Defending state champion Deer Creek defeated Tulsa Edison 2-0 at home Tuesday night in a semifinal to set up a rematch with Carl Albert in the title game.
The Titans defeated Tulsa Washington 2-1 in the other semifinal at Carl Albert High School.
Deer Creek and Carl Albert are district foes. The Antlers won the district crown while the Titans finished second.
Against Tulsa Edison, Mikayla Lowery and Lauren Haivala each scored goals for Deer Creek, now 13-3 on the season.
