High school sports: What's on tap this week

A look at what's happening around the area this week in high school sports.

Choctaw Tournament

When: Thursday-Saturday

Where: Choctaw

The story: The field features several of the top teams in 5A, including No. 1 Carl Albert, No. 5 McGuinness and No. 9 Guthrie. Moore, Norman, OCS and the OKC Broncos are also in the field in addition to the hosts.


U.S. Grant at Norman North

When: 6 p.m. Tuesday

Where: Norman North

The story: The third-ranked Norman North girls put their undefeated season on the line before a boys match pairing No. 6 U.S. Grant against the eighth-ranked Timberwolves in a key district showdown.


Deer Creek Invitational (girls)

When: Noon Tuesday

Where: Rose Creek Golf Club, Edmond

The story: Several of the state's top players and teams — starting with the host Deer Creek girls — will be in action. The defending Class 6A medalist, Allison Sell of Edmond North, is in the field, as well as McGuinness' Alexis Sadeghy, the 5A runner-up the last two years.


Putnam City Invitational

When: 1 p.m. Friday

Where: Putnam City High School

The story: Many of the metro area's top big-school track teams, including the defending Class 6A champion Edmond Santa Fe girls, will be at Putnam City, while several others will be at Deer Creek's Kathy Scoville Memorial meet on Friday.


Enid Invitational

When: Monday

Where: Oakwood Country Club, Enid

The story: Two of the biggest tournaments of the year come this week, with Monday's event in Enid, followed by the Ada Invitational Friday and Saturday.
