High school track notebook: Norman's Caleigh Donaghe shines

Multiple times this season, Norman's Caleigh Donaghe had been the second-best discus thrower on her own team.

Last week at regionals, she was second to teammate Marisa Fleck by an inch.

But Donaghe stepped up on the big stage with a throw of 128-feet, 9 inches to win the 6A gold medal by nearly two feet over Owasso's Savannah Waters.

MUSTANG'S HELMS A THREE-TIMER

Mustang senior Emily Helms picked up a gold medal Friday, winning the 3,200 meters in Class 6A for the third straight year. Helms clocked a winning time of 11:01.35.

On Saturday, she'll go for another gold in the 1,600, which she won as a sophomore.

STILLWATER'S PRATHER TAKES GOLD

It doesn't take much sand to fill a half-inch, but that was enough for Stillwater's Brandon Prather.

With a distance of 23-5 1/2, Prather edged Lawton's Dayrl Patterson by a half-inch for the 6A gold medal in the long jump.

DEFENDING CHAMPS EARN RELAY POINTS

In addition to the Deer Creek boys, two other defending team champions earned crucial relay points in the 3,200 relay on Friday.
