Only two undefeated teams remain in Class 6A volleyball, and they could end up facing off this weekend.
No. 1 Edmond Santa Fe, the defending 6A champ, and No. 2 Edmond Memorial are unbeaten on the season, and both will be in the field for Santa Fe’s Heather Harkness Invitational.
Also in the field are No. 3 Edmond North, Class 5A No. 1 Heritage Hall, McGuinness, Tulsa Union, Southmoore and Deer Creek.
The event runs Friday and Saturday at Edmond Santa Fe.
BETHANY STARTING STRONG
Bethany is climbing up the Class 4A rankings after its 10-0 start, now up to No. 5 as the only undefeated team left in the class. It’s been a pleasant start for a team replacing several key players.
“We lost several crucial players from last year, but we’ve got girls who are filling those roles very well for us,” coach Kerri Cagle said. “I think we can be just as strong as we’ve been the past couple years.”
Libero Macy Durham and outside hitter Maddie Flemmons provide some experience for the Bronchos.
“They’re both seniors and have played varsity the past couple years,” Cagle said. “They have some good experience, and that will really help us.”
UNION CITY ROLLING IN 3A
The addition of Class 3A this season is opening the door for some small-school teams to show competitive worth, and Union City is taking full advantage of the opportunity.
At 13-1 on the season, Union City is up to No. 2, behind Rejoice Christian, in the 3A rankings, and the 13 wins haven’t come against a fluffy schedule.
Union City’s only loss is to Class 6A Lawton, and five of its last six wins have come against ranked opponents from the 5A level and down.
