Former Oklahoma Lieutenant Governor Jari Askins will be the guest speaker Thursday night at the Southmoore volleyball team's Win-Win Week game.
Southmoore was a Win-Win state champion for its efforts to raise money and awareness for the fight against cancer, and the volleyball team has continued to be an important part of the school's efforts.
No. 12 Southmoore will host No. 15 Westmoore at 6 p.m. Thursday night, the first meeting since early August for the two rivals. The teams split their previous two matches.
MOUNT ST. MARY HOSTING UNBEATEN ELGIN
The state's only remaining undefeated volleyball team will be in Oklahoma City Thursday night with its win streak on the line.
Elgin, Class 4A's No. 1 team at 25-0, will be at ninth-ranked Mount St. Mary (12-8) as the 4A regular season winds down.
Mount St. Mary has been playing well of late, with a 9-2 mark in the month of September, including a win over fifth-ranked Weatherford Monday.
The Class 4A regional tournaments will be held next week with the state tournament set for Oct. 5-6 at Chickasha.
EDMOND NORTH HOLDING AT NO. 1
Edmond North held the top spot in the Class 6A rankings this week, but it was Edmond Memorial that landed the latest Edlam punch.
Memorial defeated North in a five-game slugfest (23-25, 25-22, 22-25, 25-21, 15-13) Saturday, snapping the Huskies 13-match win streak. Edmond North is 20-2 on the season, with both losses coming against the Bulldogs.
North has one victory over Memorial, that coming in the finals of Edmond Santa Fe's Heather Harkness Invitational, and the two teams are both in action at the Stillwater Tournament this weekend.
