High schools: City-area cross country runners to watch this season

Here are some city-area cross country runners to keep an eye on this season:


Ben Barrett, Norman North, Sr.: Defending Class 6A champion has also made waves on the national scene.

Bryce Balenseifen, Deer Creek, Sr.: Two-time defending state champion has dominated in Class 5A.

Lance Frost, Mustang, Sr.: Made The Oklahoman’s All-City team after finishing in top 10 last season.

Neil Knight, Edmond Santa Fe, Sr.: Finished 16th in 6A as the Wolves top-runner last season.

Carter Bradford, Yukon, Jr.: The rising junior finished in the top 20 last season in 6A.

Drake DiAngelo, Deer Creek, Sr.: A vital piece to Deer Creek’s title team with a fifth-place finish last season.


Kyra Fuller, Mustang, Sr.: Expects to challenge for the Class 6A title after finishing fourth last season.

Isabella Rose, Norman North: The top returnee from the Timberwolves dominant 6A championship team.

Clara O’Connor, Edmond Memorial, Jr.: Finished ninth last season as the Bulldogs took third in 6A.

Jenny Mehner, Edmond North, Sr.: The 10th-place finisher last season is part of a Huskies team returning all of its top five runners.

Jaci Smith, Edmond North, Sr.: Experienced runner is also a standout tennis player for the Huskies.

Jaclyn Hummel, Edmond Memorial, Sr.: The veteran on a talented Bulldogs team that expects to compete for a team title.
