Temperatures are heating up Tuesday in central Oklahoma.

The heat index will be near 101 degrees in Oklahoma City, the National Weather Service reports.

The Oklahoma City forecast is as follows:

Tuesday: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 8 a.m. Mostly sunny and hot with a high near 97. Heat index values as high as 101. South, southwest wind 7 to 14 mph with gusts as high as 20 mph.

Tuesday night: Partly cloudy with a low around 75. South wind 10 to 14 mph with gusts as high as 20 mph.

Wednesday: Sunny with a high near 96. South wind 11 to 20 mph with gusts as high as 28 mph.

Wednesday night: Mostly clear with a low around 76. South wind 13 to 18 mph with gusts as high as 25 mph.

Thursday: Mostly sunny and hot with a high near 97. South wind 10 to 14 mph with gusts as high as 20 mph.

Thursday night: Partly cloudy with a low around 76.
