The number of counties meeting or exceeding the 10 percent threshold grew from 23 to 37 in the past decade, Census Bureau figures show.

In Oklahoma County, the estimated 14,949 Hispanic prekindergartners represent 25 percent of the prekindergarten population, the figures show. About a fifth of all births in Oklahoma and Tulsa counties are to Hispanic women.

The number of Hispanic prekindergartners in Tulsa County has more than doubled since 2000 with the ethnicity now comprising one of every five children in that age group, according to the estimates.
