A Chicago megachurch has received a big boost from a donation of real estate from the Oklahoma-based Hobby Lobby craft store chain.

The Chicago Sun-Times reports the gift to Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church is part of the philanthropy of the national crafts chain. Hobby Lobby is known for buying property for Christian organizations that parallel its owners' religious beliefs.

The 14.5-acre property on the city's South Side has been vacant for years after L'Oreal Group moved its headquarters to New York.

It's the former headquarters of Johnson Products Co., the cosmetics company founded in 1954 by George Ellis Johnson.

The Rev. Charles Jenkins, Fellowship's pastor, tells the Sun-Times the gift from Hobby Lobby is a blessing. The church plans a theater-sized auditorium, community center, medical clinic and charter school.
