Hockey games create family memories

Take the chill out of winter on the ice — inside — at an Oklahoma City Barons hockey game.

In just a few weeks, my wife and daughter will be joining us for a game.

Where else can you combine the chill of winter ice and the heat of nonstop action on that ice but a Barons hockey game?

My boys and I also think it's very impressive that this is the only time a professional organization in Oklahoma had two No. 1 overall selections playing on the same team — Taylor Hall and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins.

For you families with smaller kids, there is a children's area where they get their faces painted, make posters, play video games and take a shot with a hockey stick and a puck at a dryer.

There's an exciting, fun energy at a Baron's hockey game.

And for my boys, it has made for some great bonding time.

And around the dinner table, when my sons continue to tell stories weeks after the fact about how much fun they had or mention a specific thing that occurred at one of the games, I know I've stumbled onto something pretty special.

Yes, I stumble every time I step on the ice, but more importantly, I've created memories for my sons and for myself.

You can go to to find out more about their upcoming schedule and events.
