The one-hour special “Hollywood Builders: Total Recall” debuts at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 1 on DIY Network and features the set design and construction of two of the largest sets for the action movie “Total Recall,” starring Colin Farrell, Kate Beckinsale and Jessica Biel.
The stars, along with director Len Wiseman, are included in the behind-the-scenes look at the production of the movie that involved nearly 500 people who worked together to build the film’s sets, such as decorators, carpenters, welders, painters, electricians and scenic artists, according to a news release.
Segments in the special spotlight the construction of the canal through “The Colony,” the movie’s overcrowded, multi-cultural home of the working class, and scenic artists showing how they made the roof that Farrell’s character, “Quaid,” crashes through.
The film’s space-age passenger craft “The Fall,” constructed on North America’s biggest soundstage, is also featured, with the designers sharing how they made the 25 foot in diameter set spin as the vessel journeys through the core of the earth, rotating 180 degrees and turning the actors upside down.
Encore airings of the special are on Thursday, Aug. 2 at 9 p.m., Friday, Aug. 3 at 4 p.m., and Saturday, Aug. 4 at 7 a.m.
“Total Recall” premieres in theaters Friday, Aug. 3.
