The original owners of Tiffany and Shannon Self’s house at 420 NW 14 in Heritage Hills did not have children, but they did like to surround themselves with people.

"Reflecting their social life, everything was organized with entertainment in mind. Upon entering the front door, the foyer swept all the way to the rear wall and all the way from the first level floor to the second ceiling,” according to the 1990 book "Heritage Hills,” written by historian Bob Blackburn.
Hugh and Mary Johnson were the first owners of the house, which will be featured next week on the Heritage Hills Historic Home and Garden Tour.
"Even the attic was arranged around their social life, with fifteen oversized wardrobes to hold Mary’s formal gowns, party dresses, and table lines,” Blackburn wrote.
After her husband’s death in 1944, Mary Johnson lived in the house on NW 14 for another 30 years.
"She also was a famous party hostess, serving her famous ‘Bolo’ punch made with a combination of bourbon, marinated pineapple juice and wine. At neighborhood parties, always stunningly dressed, she obligingly held court with neighbors gathered around here,” Blackburn wrote.
When Mary Johnson died, she left her estate to Historic Preservation Inc., whose directors sold it to raise funds for the protection of the neighborhood.
