Homeland will shutter its store at Northwest Expressway and MacArthur Boulevard in October, the grocer said Monday — the second of the chain’s Oklahoma City metro area locations to close this year.

The store’s 55 employees will be given opportunities to transfer to other area stores, the company said.

Homeland will let its lease expire on the store at 5857 Northwest Expressway. It will close Oct. 18.

“The decision to close a store is always difficult and must be based on sound economics,” Darryl Fitzgerald, CEO for Homeland Stores, said in a statement. “In keeping with our strategic decision to prudently invest in historically high-performing stores located in high-growth areas, we could not justify expending capital in this store.”

Oklahoma City-based HAC Inc., the parent company of Homeland Stores, also said Monday that it had wrapped up an estimated $1 million in renovations at two of its high-performing stores in the Oklahoma City metro area at 7001 NW 122 in Oklahoma City and 2400 S Cornwell in Yukon.

The renovations in the stores include upgrades to the deli and bakery departments and expanded frozen, cheese island and salad bar sections.

Homeland closed its store at 1100 W Main in Norman on March 31.
