NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Hornets rookie guard Austin Rivers has injured his right hand during Wednesday night's game against the Los Angeles Lakers and team officials say he is unable to return for the second half.

Rivers, the 10th-overall pick in last June's NBA draft, had 10 points on 5 of 6 shooting in the first half, helping the Hornets building lead that grew as large as 25 points in the second quarter.

Later in the period, Rivers jammed his hand on teammate Greivis Vasquez's body after making a steal that started a fast-break.

Rivers, the son of Boston Celtics coach Doc Rivers, was having one of his better games up to that point. He came into the game averaging 6.1 points on 36.5 percent shooting to go with 2.1 assists per contest.
