Hot dog eating etiquette

The do's and don'ts of eating a hot dog

•Dress the dog, not the bun

Don't put condiments on the bun before adding the hot dog. When possible, condiments should be applied in this order: Wet condiments like mustard or chili, chunky condiments like onions or relish, then spices such as celery salt or pepper.

•Waste a napkin

Don't even think of using a cloth napkin. That dog deserves paper napkins or a sleeve.

•Get physical

Eat a hot dog with your hands. Forks and knives should be at the table, but not at the picnic. Condiments that land on your fingers should be licked off, not washed.

•Scarf

If it takes you more than five bites, you aren't eating fast enough. Don't leave little orphan bits of bun on the plate, either.

•Accessorize

Keep ketchup for those under 18. Once you can vote, you can exercise your right to choose by choosing chili, onions or cheese.
