Women from as far away as North Dakota have registered for the race, she said.

Proceeds will benefit the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma's Food for Kids Childhood Hunger programs and The Oklahoma BirthNetwork. The presenting sponsor is OU Medical Center Edmond's My Birth Center.

Food items — including peanut butter, protein-based soups, canned meat, boxed meals, canned vegetables and fruit, rice, pasta, beans and cereal — will be accepted when participants pick up their registration packets and on race day. The food will be given to the food bank's Food for Kids School Pantry program.

The baby parade, an untimed 1-mile fun walk, will begin at 2 p.m. at Edmond's Mitch Park. Participants are encouraged to wear costumes and decorate strollers or carriages. Bicycles are not allowed.

The 5k race follows at 3 p.m.

The cost to participate in either event is $25 through Wednesday. The cost is $30 Thursday through Sept. 29 and rises to $35 on race day.
