HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — It was a record-setting night for both Villanova and Georgetown.

Laura Sweeney scored 17 points and sixth-seeded Villanova hit a Big East tournament-record 17 3-pointers to rout Georgetown 89-58 on Saturday night.

"It's kind of cool since that's what we're known for," Villanova coach Harry Perretta said. "So it's kind of cool that people think of us that way and we were able to get that in what might be the last Big East tournament."

The Wildcats overcame a 42-point effort from Sugar Rodgers, who set the Big East tournament single-game scoring record — but she almost didn't get it.

Georgetown coach Keith Brown took her out with less than a minute left. She had 40 points at the time. Perretta yelled over to Brown to put her back in to let her have a chance at the mark.

Perretta had his players intentionally foul Rodgers to give her one shot at the mark. She sank both free throws to top the previous record of 41 points set by Miami's Frances Savage in 1992.

"I want to thank Harry, that's a class act," Brown said. "I thank him so much."
