Perretta felt that Rodgers, Georgetown's all-time leading scorer deserved a shot at the mark.

"I thought she deserved a shot at it," Perretta said. "She played so well. She had to go earn it at the foul line. She had one shot at it and that was it."

The Wildcats will face third-seeded Syracuse in the quarterfinals Sunday night. The two teams met a week earlier and Villanova came away with a triple-overtime victory.

On Saturday, Villanova (21-9) didn't miss many shots, especially from behind the arc, in the first half when the Wildcats built a 23-point lead with the help of 10-for-15 shooting from 3-point range. They finished 17 of 31. Villanova shot 52 percent from the field for the game.

Jesse Carry's 3-pointer midway through the second half broke the old mark of 14 set by South Florida in 2009.
