ROLE: Dream party facilitator and true Oklahoman.
REAL ROLE: Marty oversees operations for Party Galaxy retail stores.
WHAT THAT MEANS: Overseeing operations may seem like one of those embellished terms describing the supervisor who bosses people around and watches others work. But on the contrary, Marty is a buyer, seller, cleaner, manager and planner.
“I do a little of everything,” Marty said. “I work 12 hour days usually and am always keeping busy.”
Currently Marty is planning a trip to New York to meet with a vendor.
For the last few months Marty has been hard at work trying to replace the Midwest City store, which burned down on Aug. 8.
“The holidays are such a busy time for us so we had to put up a temporary store for now to get us through the rest of the year,” Marty said.
HOW HE GOT THAT JOB: Working in the Party Galaxy stores is not new to Marty.
Marty and his brother Mike purchased the stores about six years ago from their dad.
“I grew up with my dad running the stores,” Marty said.
Marty said he worked his way up through the ranks as an employee and feels like it really helped him understand the business.
WHY OKLAHOMA: “The city just keeps moving forward there is so much going on with the NBA team and everything,” Marty said. “I am excited about my season tickets and going to the games. I think it’s going to be great.”
It is not just the economic growth of the state and the fact that he grew up here that makes Marty want to stay in Oklahoma.
Marty said he loves the people here.
“Everyone is so easy-going and laid back,” Marty said.
The experience of shopping is important for a business like Party Galaxy Marty said and Oklahoma has that.
“I definitely plan on staying here,” Marty said.
EXTRA-CURRICULARS: Marty can be found playing drums in the band Reverb Brothers when he is not working.
“I have played since I was 12 and I really love it,” Marty said.
The local rock and blues band plays all original music at venues like the Speakeasy and The Blue Note Lounge.
“It’s my escape,” Marty said.
Marty is also part of an effort to redevelop uptown Oklahoma City.
RANDOM TIDBIT: Besides going out and supporting local restaurants and entertainment venues, Marty enjoys walking and jogging.
During the few hours Marty spends at home every week he has his dog Hank and two cats Shea and Whiskey to keep him company.
