Hot today in Oklahoma before rain chances increase Thursday

Hot and humid weather is expected today before rain chances increase on Thursday,

Scattered rain and isolated thunderstorms are moving this morning east across parts of central Oklahoma. No severe weather is expected, according to the National Weather Service.

There's a slight risk of severe thunderstorms in far northwest Oklahoma late this afternoon and evening. Widespread thunderstorms are expected late Thursday into Friday as a cold front moves into the area.

Severe weather and heavy rain will be possible on Thursday afternoon and night, mainly across northern Oklahoma.

Today across the state will be sunny with highs in the lower to mid-90s.

Overnight lows will fall into the mid-50s in the northwest to the upper 60s and lower 70s elsewhere.

Skies will remain partly cloudy on Thursday, with highs in the upper 8os to upper 90s.

Warnings, advisory issued

Red flag warning

Until 10 p.m. today: Cimarron and Texas counties.

A red flag warning means dangerous conditions exist that are creating wildfire growth potential. Conditions include sustained winds averaging at least 20 mph, relative humidity of 20 percent or less and a temperature more than 65 degrees Fahrenheit.

Wind advisory

Until 11 p.m. today: Alfalfa, Beckham, Blaine, Caddo, Canadian, Comanche, Custer, Dewey, Ellis, Garfield, Grant, Greer, Harmon, Harper, Jackson, Kingfisher, Kiowa, Major, Roger Mills, Tillman, Washita, Woods and Woodward counties.

Until midnight: Beaver, Cimarron and Texas counties.

A wind advisory means sustained winds between 25 and 39 mph and/or gusts up to 57 mph are expected, which may make driving difficult.

Flood warning

Until this afternoon: Black Bear Creek at Pawnee, Cimarron River near Dover and Verdigris River near Lenapah.

Until tonight: Bird Creek near Sperry, Cimarron River near Perkins and Salt Fork Arkansas River at Tonkawa.

Until late today: Caney River near Ramona.

Until Thursday morning: Bird Creek near Owasso-Mingo.

Until Friday morning: Caney River near Collinsville and Neosho River near Commerce.

A flood warning means flooding is occurring or is imminent. Rivers and creeks are overflowing and heavy runoff or drainage of water into low-lying areas is happening.

Oklahoma forecast

Today: Highs from the upper 80s to near 100.

Tonight: Lows from the mid-50s in the northwest to the upper 60s and lower 70s elsewhere.

Thursday: Highs from the mid-80s to upper 90s. Chance of rain and thunderstorms.

Oklahoma City-area forecast

Rest of today: Partly cloudy. Highs in the lower 90s. Southerly winds 20 to 30 mph, gusting to about 45 mph.

Tonight: Partly cloudy. Lows in the lower 70s. Southerly winds 20 to 30 mph.

Thursday: Mostly sunny. Highs in the upper 80s. Southerly winds 15 to 20 mph.

Thursday night: Mostly cloudy. Lows about 70. Southeasterly winds 10 to 15 mph. Fifty percent chance of thunderstorms.
