A firefighter suffered minor injuries Monday when he fell while battling a house fire on Cedar Lane. The vacant house worth about $100,000 was destroyed by the fire, which also burned about three acres, Norman Deputy Fire Chief James Bailey said.

Fire crews were called out about 9 a.m. and battled the blaze at 3010 E Cedar Lane about two hours before getting it under control, Bailey said. The injured firefighter was treated at the scene. No other injuries were reported, and the cause of the blaze remains under investigation.

Blaze destroys duplex

In a separate incident, six people living in a duplex at 2812/2814 Shoreridge Ave. were displaced earlier Monday when a fire erupted about 6 a.m., Bailey said. The fire apparently started from an unattended chiminea, he said.

Firefighters encountered heavy smoke and fire coming from the roof of the structure when they arrived.

The six occupants already had left the building and were safe, the deputy fire chief said.

Firefighters tried to battle the blaze from inside but were forced to retreat when the roof began to collapse, Bailey said.

Crews spent about an hour getting the fire under control. A preliminary damage estimate was set at $250,000, he said.

The Red Cross is helping the six people who were displaced by the fire, Bailey said.
