Houston-area athlete commits to Oklahoma State

Oklahoma State picked up a verbal commitment from a high school quarterback this week.

Of course, the Cowboys see the Houston-area athlete’s future in the defensive backfield.

Trey Roberts, a 6-foot-2, 200-pounder from Aldine (Texas) Eisenhower High School, became OSU’s fourth verbal commit of the 2014 class.

A quarterback at Eisenhower, the Cowboys targeted him as a cornerback, with Van Malone working as his primary recruiter. The Cowboys recently used a similar plan with starting cornerback Justin Gilbert, who was a quarterback at Huntsville (Texas) High School.

That gives the Cowboys three defensive commits in the class, along with linebackers Gyasi Akem of Broken Arrow and Justin Phillips of Pearland, Texas.
