UNCASVILLE, Conn. (AP) — Marche' Amerson scored 24 points as 10th-seeded Houston upset No. 7 Memphis 73-67 in the first round of the American Athletic Conference tournament.

Houston plays second-seeded Louisville in the quarterfinals Saturday.

Memphis (13-18) scored the first nine points of the game and Houston's interim head coach Wade Scott called timeout. His team responded, taking the lead with 7:41 left on Amerson's jumper, and the teams were tied at 31 at the break.

Houston (6-24) was up by eight with 3 minutes left in the game, but Ariel Hearn made three consecutive 3-pointers for Memphis to trim the deficit to three at 64-61 with 2:09 remaining.

But Te'onna Campbell drilled a trey with 1:38 left and Houston made its free throws down the stretch as Memphis made just two of its last seven shots in the game.

Campbell finished with 15 points and eight boards.

Hearn led Memphis with 27 points.
