The Hugs Project's Blazing Sun Freedom Run will be held Saturday at Stars and Stripes Park at Lake Hefner.

Registration begins at 6 a.m., with a 7:30 a.m. start to the 5k and 10k runs.

There will also be activities for children including a dunk tank, moon walk and special 1k run.

The Hugs Project began nine years ago and is based in Crossroads Mall.

The group sends boxes to service members currently in the Middle East.

“We give them a box of love and they give us freedom,” The Hugs Project Executive Director Karen Stark said.

The nonprofit group is also collecting money to help defer postage costs.

Tax-deductible donations are accepted year-round.

Contributions can be sent to 7000 Crossroads Blvd., No. 1048, Oklahoma City, OK 73149.

Sandra Leaver is public relations coordinator for The Hugs Project.
