'Hunger Games' star Josh Hutcherson, a bread maker?
Josh Hutcherson plays the baker's son Peeta Mellark in “The Hunger Games” film, and bread represents a symbol of hope in Suzanne Collins' bleak series of books about a dystopian future, on which the movie is based.
Hutcherson, a fan of “The Hunger Games” trio of books, said it was a coincidence that he went on a one-time bread-baking spree back in Kentucky before he had read the novels and before he got the part playing Peeta. His character bakes bread and has a special talent for decorating the cakes on display in his family's bakery, a talent he puts to use in the Games' arena.
Hutcherson's real-life bread-baking “was kind of almost like a foreshadow, accidental in my life,” he said. “It was pretty random and funny.”
Hutcherson baked bread at that time just because he had never done it before but describes himself as more of a “barbecue kind of guy.”
“You know, I like to grill more than anything, like burgers and chicken and stuff like that,” he said. “But yeah, I can whip up like an apple pie now and then or ... some kind of fancy pastry dessert.”
