The eastern screech owl rescued by downtown workers has died. The owl died Thursday of possible poisoning or starvation, WildCare Oklahoma director Rhondi Large said. She said the owl died before she got to an animal shelter to retrieve him Thursday night.
"I did an exam, and he was emaciated,” she said. "He hadn’t been eating for a while. There’s a chance he ate a poisoned mouse. That sometimes happens to these little guys.” The owl had no fractures or indications he’d flown into a building or car as originally thought. The owl was found outside a downtown office building Thursday. Workers at a floral shop put it in a cardboard box before taking it to an animal shelter.
