A farmer kept a photograph of it on the visor of his pick-up. A couple of businesses posted a picture for customers to see.

Several hunters had tried but failed to harvest the unusual antelope over the last several years.

Finally, a hunter was lucky to claim it as a trophy.

Justin Courtney, 33, a Blackwell native who now lives in Dallas, Texas, took the pronghorn last month in Cimarron Country, shooting it just two miles from the New Mexico border.

It is expected to be only the fourth antelope from Oklahoma to make the Boone & Crockett record book.

What makes this pronghorn unique is the mass of his horns.

"He’s got 7-inch bases, carries his mass all the way up and he’s got real high cutters,” said Terry Mayberry, owner of Terry’s Taxidermy in Oklahoma City.
