Purcell baseball coach Dane Coale, the husband of Oklahoma women's basketball coach Sherri Coale, has stepped down.

"I was going to quit four years ago but I stayed here because I wanted my son to have a chance to transfer here if he wanted to," Coale said. "He's a senior now and I love doing what I'm doing at Purcell but I got tired of missing my kids practices and games."

Coale went 241-217 at Purcell and coached the Dragons to the Class 3A semifinals this season. He stopped his teaching duties four years ago but stayed on as Purcell's coach.

"We hadn't done as well as I would've liked the past four or five years but making the state tournament this year, I felt like I was leaving it in pretty good shape," Coale said. "It seemed like a good time."
