SPRINGER — A tractor-trailer carrying 138 head of cattle overturned early Monday on Interstate 35 north of Ardmore, killing 60 of the animals and closing the northbound lanes of I-35 for eight hours.
Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers said the tractor-trailer overturned just before 4 a.m. in the median of I-35 at mile marker 40. Troopers shut down both northbound lanes as crews unloaded the surviving cattle and cleaned up after the wreck.
Troopers said 59 of the cattle were killed in the wreck and another one had to be euthanized shortly after. Both northbound lanes of I-35 were opened shortly after noon.
Authorities did not release the name of the driver of the tractor-trailer or the owner of the cattle.
