MADRID (AP) — Two-time European ice skating champion Javier Fernandez has been named Spain's flag bearer for the opening ceremonies of the Sochi Winter Games on Feb. 7.

Fernandez says it will be "an enormous honor" to lead Spain's delegation of 21 athletes.

At last year's Europeans, Fernandez became the first Spaniard to win a major figure skating title.

Fernandez, who trains in Canada, successfully defended his European title last Saturday in Budapest.

He also won the bronze medal at last year's world championships and is Spain's biggest medal hope at the Olympics.
