Technically, Melani of Chickasha, a recession is defined by declines in measures of overall economic activity such as employment, investment, and corporate profits. Signs of a recession are usually rising prices (inflation), or falling prices (deflation), sharply in a process known as stagflation. Obviously, employment is down and we have seen the rise in gas, food, and other daily consumer goods. However, to curtail investment loss or profits, corporations have moved overseas to gain cheaper labor without paying employee benefits as demanded and required here at home, therefore, coprorate profits are at an all time high and there is no real recession taking place right now. Even the federal and some state governments, by the war in Iraq, are profiting through private contractors like Halliburton and Blackwater who are basically embezzling taxpayer moneys. These are undisputable facts that conservatives and liberals are both to blame; however, both parties are throwing blame back and forth. Ultimately, the American working class is footing the bill under the guise of patriotism, something they are tired of doing with the democrats wanting to change this and the republicans wanting to continue it. If you write a documentary on recession, be prepared to argue politics since politics is what guides a capitalist system.

I would write a documentary about how we are in recession. I can remember all the old stores my Grandparents told me about the old days of hunger now at middle aged I'm going through it and can totally understand why they talked about it so much.

I would like to do a documentary on what effect the Dawes Act had on current Native landowners in Oklahoma and the nation, how non-Natives today have benefitted from this act; and what the future holds for Indians across America today in the country.
Also known as the Dawes Severalty Act, the Dawes Act authorized the President of the United States to have Native American tribal lands surveyed and divided into plots for individual Native American families. It was enacted on February 8, 1887 and named after its sponsor, U.S. Senator Henry L. Dawes of Massachusetts. The act was amended in 1891 and again in 1906 by the Burke Act. The act remained in effect until 1934.
The land granted to most allottees was not sufficient for economic use, and the division of land between heirs upon allottees' deaths resulted in land fractionation. Most allotment land, which could be sold after a statutory period of 25 years, was eventually sold to non-Native buyers at bargain prices.
Additionally, land deemed to be "surplus" beyond what was needed for allotment was opened to white settlers, though the profits from the sales of these lands were often invested in programs meant to aid the American Indians. Native Americans lost, over the 47 years of the Act's life, about 90 million acres (360,000 km²) of treaty land, or about two-thirds of the 1887 land base. About 90,000 Indians were made landless.
The Dawes Act, with its emphasis on individual land ownership, also had a negative impact on the unity, self-government, and culture of Indian tribes.

Along the line of what C,PV, mentioned; How people can call themself Christian (or pick any religion) and deliberately go against the teachings. Example; brought to my mind by a discussion with Anonymous from Edmond. I said world conditions are worse now than during Hitler's time and he brought up the murder of 6 million Jews. I consider the murder by abortion of many times that many of the most innocent people on Earth to be worse and these modern day murderers call themselves Christian, as did Hitler. Then those that claim to believe the Bible (or Koran etc.) that promote the same-sex lifestyle which clearly goes against the teachings. How can they rebel and refuse the Holy Spirit? Why can't they see unless they repent and change, they will stand next to Hitler and Hussein and Chairman Mao on Judgment Day? That is only 2 examples. There are at least 8 more to answer to in Judeo-Christianity alone. And how can someone with a clear conscience vote for a president that supports more murders than the 3 I mentioned supported?

Just one more reason for me to not shop at Walmart, Joe. I despise them. I wonder if this is really what Sam Walton intended for his company.

I would document the cycles of as Walmart has grown and taken over the market place by demanding lower prices from suppliers, how that is corrolated to the use of immigrant labor by suppliers to lower the pay to obtain the lower cost basis. So the more you shop at walmart the greater the risk that your job could be eliminated or replaced by cheaper labor.

I don't want to miss yours, Stan...important topics! ____I like your interest in states' rights, Stan. I feel that individual states should still retain such rights. ___Also, it would be interesting to investigate the preambles to the constitutions (and other instruments which make reference to God) of each of the fifty United States as well. While no state directs any person to worship God, each acknowledges God. ____A documentary showing the legality and the legacy of this nation's acknowledgement of God as our Creator in regard to the American culture and our national heritage and our founding would fit in with such an investigation.____ It seems to me there is real need for education in regard to the Electoral College as our method of presidential election along with support information explaining why it remains viable and important today. It is important to retain it and the need to do so links directly to the issue of states rights. ________I think a documentary into certain aspects of medical science could reveal the long process involved in developing medications which have been developed for the safe and effective control or cure of disease. The investment of research and clinical studies is huge...not only in time and manpower but in monetary cost...for many, many long years before it can be made available for the public. We may think it is too high but initially the many long years of research and clinical studies and monetary investment must be absorbed. We grumble at the price. True, it is exorbitant at times...but when push comes to shove, would we prefer that no one makes the investment. We cannot expect such advancements to be without cost....but eventually the cost will come down. The general public needs to understand this issue.
