"Man killed by police at Midwest City store spoke of ‘Illuminati'” (News, June 20) quoted a police detective as saying that research reveals the Illuminati is a satanic cult. The Illuminati was an offshoot of the Masonic Lodge in Bavaria, Germany, in the 1700s. The group ceased to function by the early 1800s, at the latest. When the Illuminati did exist it was never a satanic cult. Nor did it practice human sacrifice on June 21 or any other date.
