Scam artists impersonating U.S. Census workers are distributing bogus forms seeking Social Security numbers of some Oklahoma residents, the local census office warned Wednesday.

Census office manager Sidna Madden said six Oklahoma County residents reported that forms were left on their doorsteps with instructions to fill them out and return the documents to an Oklahoma City address.

One man said the form was left by a woman wearing a T-shirt with the census logo and driving a car with a census sign on it. Madden said any forms asking for Social Security numbers are bogus and should be reported to her office at 254-9122.

Residents that returned the forms are now concerned they were targeted for identity theft, she said.

"Good Lord, they could completely wreck someone's financial savings," Madden said. "There are way too many things they can do with that information. It's very scary."
