Regarding “Serenity Deal's imprisoned mother files $3M claim” (News, July 9): Serenity Deal's mother sued the Department of Human Services for the alleged wrongful death of her daughter. Not only can the state not afford this, but the mother was clearly partially at fault for getting taken away from Serenity. This happened when the mother got in trouble for child molestation and is now in jail. The vast majority of DHS workers do their best. Instead of spending that money on frivolous lawsuits, it should be spent on reforming DHS.
