A Spencer man was sentenced Friday to life in prison without the possibility of parole after he pleaded guilty to “deliberately” killing the mother of his two young children. The plea allows him to avoid the death penalty.
David Dean Nichols Jr., 40, was charged with first-degree murder in the Jan. 5 death of Jenna Flippo, 35, who was stabbed as many as 36 times with a screwdriver, prosecutors said.

“The defendant waited outside the victim's home … and when she came out he stabbed her between two and three dozen times with a screwdriver,” Rowland said.
