In addition to wintry precip, wind chill temps remain very low

At 9:05 a.m. wind chill readings included negative 3 at the Oklahoma City-West Oklahoma Mesonet weather network

site and negative 11 in northwestern Oklahoma and negative 14 in the eastern Panhandle at Slapout.

There was a wind chill reading of negative 16 earlier today at Hooker, Okla.

In looking back to March 2, 2002, according to the National Weather Service, Norman Forecast Office Weather History:

“On its second day to affect the region, a winter storm continued on this day (March 2) in 2002.

“During the early morning hours on that day in March 2002, freezing rain turned to snow over a large part of Oklahoma.  The highest amounts of snow were seen over northern Oklahoma, where the freezing rain changed to snow quicker. Up to 5 inches of snow was reported in the Enid area, with just a couple of inches reported over central Oklahoma, southward to the Red River Valley.”

For today, here’s a look at the Oklahoma City forecast on this March 2, 2014 as of 9:06 a.m.:

Today Snow and sleet likely.  Cloudy, with a high near 16. Wind chill values as low as -3. North wind 17 to 21 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph.  Chance of precipitation is 70%. Total daytime snow and sleet accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Tonight Snow likely, mainly before midnight.  Cloudy, with a low around 8. Wind chill values as low as -11. North wind 13 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.  Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Monday Mostly sunny, with a high near 23. Wind chill values as low as -8. North wind 5 to 13 mph.

Monday Night Partly cloudy, with a low around 18. Light and variable wind becoming south southwest around 6 mph after midnight.

Tuesday Mostly sunny, with a high near 46. South southwest wind 6 to 8 mph becoming east in the morning.

Tuesday Night Partly cloudy, with a low around 28.

Wednesday A 20 percent chance of showers.  Partly sunny, with a high near 51.

Wednesday Night A 20 percent chance of showers.  Mostly cloudy, with a low around 32.

Thursday Sunny, with a high near 60
