Charge upheld in dog’s death
A judge on Monday let stand an animal cruelty charge, rejecting a dismissal motion that claimed "outrageous governmental conduct.” George Henry Roberts, 59, is charged with hanging a dog that came onto his property in southeast Tulsa County. Judge Dana Kuehn ruled that deputies had followed department protocol. She set a May 4 trial date for Roberts.

Church ends court battle
The congregation of a Tulsa church that split with its denomination two years ago will buy back property it lost in a court battle. The congregation of Kirk of the Hills Presbyterian voted Sunday night to accept an agreement with Presbyterian Church (USA) and its Eastern Oklahoma Presbytery to buy the property for $1.75 million. The decision should end a two-year court battle that began when the church left the denomination over concerns about its liberal drift.

Fellowship to be praised
Don McClanen, 83, will be honored at 2 p.m. Friday as the founder of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes on the campus where he began it, Eastern Oklahoma State College in Wilburton, according to the college. A bronze bust of McClanen will be unveiled. McClanen is a former basketball coach and athletic director at Eastern A&M College, which is now Eastern Oklahoma State College.

Cherokees mark phase
The second phase of renovations in the $280,000 project have finished at the Cherokee Heritage Center. The center features a contemporary Cherokee Museum store, a revitalized atrium and an array of interactive features. The center was established in 1963.
