LOS ANGELES — The mother of a Missouri girl who committed suicide after being targeted by a Net hoax testified Thursday she was unaware daughter had posed as an 18-year-old while trying to chat online. Tina Meier’s testimony came during the trial of Lori Drew, who is accused of posting MySpace messages that provoked the suicide of Megan Meier. Tina Meier has said she had monitored 95 percent of the online activity of her 13-year-old daughter.

Teen charged in hate crime

RIVERHEAD, N.Y. — A grand jury charged a Long Island teenager with murder as a hate crime in connection with the stabbing death of an Ecuadorean immigrant. Jeffrey Conroy was charged in the death of Marcelo Lucero. Conroy’s six co-defendants were arraigned on gang assault and other charges in the Nov. 8 attack.
