LINCOLN, Neb.Gov. Dave Heineman on Friday signed a bill that adds a 30-day age limit to a safe-haven law that led to the abandonment of nearly three dozen children, including some teenagers as old as 17. The law goes into effect at 12:01 a.m. today.

Restaurant blaze kills 3

SPRINGFIELD, Colo. — Three people died early Friday after a fire destroyed a restaurant and a home in Springfield. The fire was under investigation.

Officials clear arson fears

HENDERSON, Ky. — Investigators said Friday they have found no sign of arson in Thursday’s blaze that killed 27 horses at a thoroughbred training facility in western Kentucky.

FRESNO, Calif. — An unstable cliff prompted officials Friday to permanently close 233 cabins in a popular Yosemite National Park lodge complex that has a long history of rockslides. The cabins are in Curry Village.

FBI arrests man in threats case

CINCINNATIFBI officials said Friday they arrested a man who allegedly threatened to blow up the Cincinnati Bengals’ stadium and other area landmarks. Frederick Purvis, 42, is accused of sending threat e-mails to media outlets and to the FBI.
