State official is finalist for cable leader award

Cox Communications and Cable in the Classroom have recognized a state official for his dedication to education.

Lester Claravall, head of the state Labor Department, is a finalist for the 2009 Cable’s Leaders in Learning Awards.

This is the fifth year for the awards program, which recognizes educators, administrators and community leaders.

This is the second year Claravall has been a finalist.

He is being recognized for creating the game "Paying Attention Pays” to teach students about child labor laws.

MAPS for Kids meeting
People can learn more about the upcoming renovations to Shidler Elementary School in Oklahoma City at a MAPS for Kids meeting Tuesday. This will be the final meeting before the $2.8 million renovation starts on the school building. The meeting starts at 6 p.m. in the school’s cafeteria, 1415 S Byers Ave.

Job fair is for teachers
EDMOND — Organizers expect more than 40 school districts and educational organizations at the University of Central Oklahoma 2009 Teacher Job Fair Monday from 9 a.m. to noon in the Nigh University Center Ballroom. Participants should wear professional dress and have copies of their resumes.
