Oklahoma lawmaker calls for session to address DHS budget cuts

Sen. Kenneth Corn wants a special session to address $7 million in budget cuts to the Department of Human Services.

The cut will shut down senior nutrition centers statewide, said Corn, D-Poteau. State Department of Human Services officials cut nearly 30 percent of the state’s nutrition program budget earlier this week, eliminating funding for more than 780,000 hot meals to be served for the remainder of the fiscal year.

All state agencies have been asked to cut their budgets because of a decline in state revenues. Corn criticized DHS commissioners for making the nutrition program shoulder virtually the entire round of budget cuts.

seems to me it would be a good idea to cut a little out of most programs than cut all of one program. but then the dept does not get all the concern like it does for cutting the seniors. it is all politices as usual. the heads of these depts did not get where they are by doing the right thing.
