Ex-caregiver gets 5 years
A former day care operator in Enid was sentenced to five years in prison for abusing a boy. Kimberly Coulter, 24, was sentenced Tuesday after earlier entering an Alford plea to a felony count of child abuse for shaking then 5-month-old Tegan Corr in December 2006. The parents of the now 4-year-old say he has the developmental level of a 15-month-old.

Ex-treasurer faces charge
Former Warner city clerk and treasurer
Carla Lanette Reed, 51, was charged Tuesday with embezzling funds. A state audit questioned more than $14,000 in unauthorized payroll payments. Reed was booked into the
Muskogee County jail and released on $10,000 bail. If convicted, Reed faces up to five years in prison, a $5,000 fine and payment of restitution.

Man enters guilty plea
Dusty Burns of Checotah has pleaded guilty to a count of possession with an intent to distribute anabolic steroids, admitting he sold anabolic steroids to a former tribal police officer and others. Authorities said Burns sold anabolic steroids to
Jimmy Russell Hamm and others.
U.S. prosecutors have said the purchases and deliveries were done while Hamm was on duty as a member of the
Creek Nation Lighthorse Division.

Teen hit by pickup
A 14-year-old boy riding a bicycle to school was struck by a pickup Wednesday morning and taken to a hospital, authorities said. The boy was listed in good condition at
OU Medical Center, said Lara O’Leary,
Emergency Medical Services Authority spokeswoman. Hit in a school zone on his way to school, the boy was not wearing a helmet, O’Leary said. Emergency crews went to NW 1 and N Villa Avenue about 8:10 a.m., a fire department spokeswoman said. The accident scene was cleared for traffic about 9:30 a.m., according to
Oklahoma City’s Web site.

Abuse nets prison term
Thomas David Goertz, 31, of
Salina, Kan., convicted of child abuse in connection with the death of his 7-month-old son, has been sentenced to 17
years in prison. Goertz was convicted in April in the May 25, 2007, death of
John Fogleman. Trial testimony showed Goertz shook the baby to hush him because he had been crying most of the day.

Case dropped against man
Felony charges were dropped against a 75-year-old Jay man accused of molesting a Jay teenager, a prosecutor said Wednesday.
Johnnie Norman Warren pleaded guilty on Oct. 13 to furnishing low-point beer and tobacco to a minor, a misdemeanor. Nick Lelecas, assistant district attorney, declined to say why charges of forcible sodomy, lewd acts and furnishing obscene material to a minor were dropped.

Pair arrested in meth case
Two people were arrested Tuesday in connection with what Ardmore police are calling "shake-and-bake” methamphetamine manufacturing.
Douglas Sauer, 48, and
Cher Converse, 42, were arrested on complaints of endeavoring to manufacture methamphetamine. The pair was taken to the
Carter County jail.
