Murder trial set in burning
Edward Jackson, 45, of Oklahoma City will stand trial in Comanche County on charges of burning a man to death. He’s charged with first-degree murder in the burning death of 75-year-old L.C. Stern of Altus. Authorities say Stern died at a Lawton hospital after gasoline was poured onto the pickup where he was sitting and was then set on fire.

Wanted man arrested
Police in Tulsa said a 31-year-old man wanted in a deadly shooting outside a taco stand has been arrested in St. Louis. Luis Alberto Mendoza was arrested Monday on immigration charges and Tulsa police will be going to St. Louis as part of their investigation. Mendoza was wanted in the early Monday morning shooting death of Erik Victorino, 20, in the parking lot of an east Tulsa convenience store.

Racial slurs mar church
Ada Police are investigating a report of racial slurs spray-painted on the building of a predominantly black church Thursday. A window at the Philemon Missionary Baptist Church was spray-painted with the words "White Power” while the doors were marked with numerous threats and racial slurs. New tax OK’d for school
The Durant school board approved a $35 million contract to build a new high school. The project is being funded by a sales tax increase of five-eighths of a cent for the next 25 years.
