Man jailed in shooting
Oklahoma City police arrested James Leroy Green II, 38, shown above, on Wednesday in connection with the fatal shooting of a motorist at an intersection. Green, also found in possession of methamphetamine, is accused in the fatal shooting of Ricky Lee Smith, 53, police said. A man pulled up Smith about noon Oct. 19 on S Blackwelder Avenue near Inter-state 240 Service Road. The man got out of his vehicle, walked up to Smith’s sport utility vehicle, which was stopped, and shot Smith, witnesses told police. Smith died three days later. On Wednesday, investigators interviewed Green at the apartment complex where Smith lived and worked.

Women vets to be feted
Oklahoma’s women veterans will celebrate the 25th anniversary of the
Oklahoma Women Veterans Organization this weekend in Oklahoma City. Saturday is Oklahoma Women Veterans Recognition Day. The group will have its annual event at the
Biltmore Hotel, 401 S Meridian Ave., beginning Friday. Organizers said a hospitality suite will be open from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday at the hotel. Official events will be from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Speakers will include retired

E. coli found in park water
EUFAULA STATE PARK — The state Department of Environmental Quality has advised
Lake Eufaula State Park in
McIntosh County to inform guests and other consumers of the drinking water that it is unsafe for human consumption due to the presence of E. coli. This boil advisory affects Lake Eufaula State Park only. Water served from the Lake Eufaula State Park system should be boiled for at
least one minute before drinking, use in food preparation, washing dishes or brushing teeth.

Lack of funds Force closing
Jackson and Tillman county officials are closing two bridges next week due to a lack of funds for repairs.

Commissioner Jimmie Smith said Wednesday the county would have to come up with at least $15,000 every two years to meet new inspection requirements in addition to needed repairs.

State offers Seed packets
Packages of tree and shrub seedlings designed to improve wildlife habitat are available from the state
Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry. Each wildlife packet is made up of 25 each of four different species of trees and shrubs to enhance the habitat of deer, songbirds, turkey, quail and a variety of other animals. For more information, go to

FORT GIBSON
Oven heats up For bake day
Fort Gibson Historic Site will heat up its big stone oven for the last time this year for the Fall Bake Day on Nov. 14. From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., visitors can see how the army baked bread at the fort in the late 1800s. For a nominal donation to the Friends of Fort Gibson, visitors may take home a loaf of bread baked in the oven. Visitors are also welcome to bring their favorite bread recipes to bake. Chief baker
